Leaving Afghanistan was a bad decision, a shameful disaster for America.
“Lindsey Graham”, the Republican senator of the US Congress, in his user account on the X social network on the occasion of the second anniversary of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, called the withdrawal of the Americans from Afghanistan a disaster and said: “This is the second anniversary of the disastrous withdrawal of the Biden administration from Afghanistan It is one of the most ill-conceived, disastrous and shameful decisions in the history of American foreign policy.
Criticizing the current situation in Afghanistan, Graham added: “Two years later, the Taliban are oppressing women and have become warm with terrorist organizations. “Afghanistan is again seen as a launching pad for attacks against American interests by radical forces.”
According to Lindsey Graham, this catastrophic retreat forced radical forces around the world, sent a signal of weakness to countries like Russia, China, and Iran, and led to great instability and heartache around the world.
According to Graham, the entire situation in Afghanistan today was unnecessary and avoidable.
Three days ago, United Nations experts, on Monday, released a statement coinciding with the second anniversary of the Taliban’s rule over Afghanistan, saying that it was wrong to think that the Taliban had “reformed”.
In this statement, it was stated that the policies of the Taliban in the last two years have led to the continuous and shocking cancellation and violation of many human rights of Afghan citizens, including the right to education, work and freedom.
The statement added: “Certain and persistent reports of extrajudicial executions and practices such as enforced disappearances, widespread arbitrary detentions, torture and ill-treatment, as well as arbitrary displacements of people, have raised growing concerns.”
At least 30 UN experts have signed this statement and said that the Taliban’s violent policy has caused the most damage to women and girls, ethnic and religious minorities, people with physical and mental disabilities, homeless people, LGBT people, human rights defenders and Other civil society actors include journalists, artists, teachers, and government and military officials of the previous regime.
In this statement, referring to the claims of Taliban officials about the temporary restrictions on women’s work and education, it was stated that the continuation of this policy has caused mass torture of people, especially Afghan women and girls.
United Nations experts called the situation resulting from the Taliban’s policies in Afghanistan “gender apartheid” and said that recently in some provinces of Afghanistan, Taliban leaders have ordered that girls over 10 years old should not go to school. This order, which was verbally communicated to the officials of the Taliban’s education department in the provinces, has caused thousands of other girls to be deprived of education. United Nations experts consider the Taliban’s discrimination against women and the imposed restrictions to be an example of a crime against humanity and say that these actions have caused irreparable damage to Afghan society.
