Lapid: We have seen great progress in relations between Israel and Turkey.
During a visit to Turkey, the Israeli Foreign Minister acknowledged that Tel Aviv’s relations with Ankara had seen great progress over the past year.
During his visit to Turkey yesterday (Thursday), Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid spoke about the improvement of relations between Tel Aviv and Ankara over the past year.
“We saw great progress in Israeli-Turkish relations last year,” Lapid told a joint news conference with Cavusoglu in Ankara, according to the Anatolia news agency.
The Israeli Foreign Minister added: “We have started talks to bring the sofra back in the near future; “We also talked about improving economic and political consultations, and we hope to complete these steps soon.”
Acknowledging that “Turkey is the number one destination for Israeli tourists,” he added: “We hope that Israeli tourists will be able to return to Turkey in the near future.”
“It is very important that in the coming weeks we finalize the process that we have started during your visit to Israel,” Lapid told the Turkish Foreign Minister at the press conference. “And [in that context] let Israeli airlines fly directly to both Istanbul and the Turkish coast.”
At the meeting, Tel Aviv’s foreign minister reiterated his claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran, claiming that Tehran was planning an attack on Turkey. He also acknowledged that Turkey could respond to Iran’s efforts to carry out terrorist acts against the Zionists in the country.
He thanked his Turkish counterpart and acknowledged that diplomatic relations at the international level also have a personal dimension, and that working with Cavusoglu has accelerated the process of improving relations between Tel Aviv and Ankara.
Lapid, meanwhile, chose Ankara as his first foreign travel destination after staying in charge of advancing the affairs of the Tel Aviv cabinet, which, after a long period of domestic political crisis in the occupied territories, was a guest in Turkey for several hours.
