King of Jordan: “We do our best to support the sanctities of Jerusalem.”
In a telephone conversation with the US President, the King of Jordan stressed that the Palestinian issue must be resolved on the basis of a two-state solution and the formation of an independent Palestinian state.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II telephoned US President Joe Biden on Monday afternoon to “continue efforts to bring peace to the region and the world.”
The King of Jordan issued a statement saying that Abdullah II, in talks with Biden, examined relations and partnership between the two countries and ways to expand it in all areas.
According to the website of the Royal Palace of Jordan, Abdullah II on the issue of Palestine “stressed the importance of continuing coordination and efforts in all areas to prevent the recurrence of attacks on the city of Jerusalem and its sanctuaries and inhabitants.”
The King of Jordan said that these attacks could destroy the opportunity for peace and increase tensions, noting that efforts should be made to achieve a just and inclusive peace that realizes the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on the basis of a two-state solution.
Emphasizing the need to establish a Palestinian state in the capital, Jerusalem, he said that the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque should be respected and that Jordan would do its utmost to support the Islamic and Christian sanctities of Jerusalem.
In this regard, thousands of people in Amman, the capital of Jordan, took to the streets last week after Friday prayers and chanted slogans against the crimes of the Zionist regime. Protesters against the Zionist atrocities, especially in Al-Aqsa Mosque, called for the expulsion of the Zionist ambassador from Jordan and the cancellation of the infamous Wadi al-Arabah agreement (signed in 1994) between Amman and Tel Aviv.
“Demonstrators who took to the streets at the invitation of the National Rally in Support of the Resistance Coalition (consisting of political groups and non-governmental groups) chanted: ‘Open the borders, millions are ready to be martyred on the way to Jerusalem.’ They also objected to the continued export of gas from the Zionist regime, which is in fact part of the property of the Palestinian people.
