Japan seeks to review defense guidelines with the US.
Japanese government sources said the Fumio Kishida administration plans to revise part of the defense directive with the United States during a planned defense meeting between Tokyo and Washington next month.
The move comes weeks after the Japanese government amended its key security documents amid growing security concerns in the Asia-Pacific region.
Japan made this modification in response to strengthening the military capabilities of China, Russia and North Korea.
According to these sources, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida hopes to negotiate with US President Joe Biden on the first revision of the two countries’ defense cooperation guidelines that were approved in 2015.
Kishida is going to visit Joe Biden in January next year when he travels to Washington.
