Italy demanded the economic independence of Europe from America.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called for the economic independence of the European Union from the United States.
According to Bloomberg’s report, this request of the Italian Prime Minister was raised following the new American law, in which European manufacturers are forced to compete with their American counterparts.
In his year-end press conference in Rome, Meloni called on the European Union to pass a $360 billion bill in response to the US Inflationary Reduction Act (IRA) to ensure supply chains for key European industries are not disrupted. Maloney said the EU should also review its rules on state aid to manufacturers and strengthen oversight of supply chains for industries such as computer chips, carmakers and renewable energy.
The new US law for new energy infrastructure provides many incentives, including tax breaks for producers in this sector. EU leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have criticized the law, warning it could tear the West apart.
Also, Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, has suggested that the European Union should respond to the new American law that seeks to attract European companies by providing funds for companies in need and giving more opportunities to member countries to invest.
