Iraq: The area from where the missiles were fired towards Kadhimi’s residence has been identified.
A spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces Command said that the area where the drones were fired at the prime minister’s residence had been identified and that the drones had not been intercepted by radars due to their low altitude flight.
Maj. Gen. Yahya Rassoul, spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces General Command, announced on Sunday evening that the area where the drones were fired at the Iraqi prime minister’s house had been identified.
Maj. Gen. Rasool said the two drones that attacked the home of Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the prime minister, flew from an area 12 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.
He said the S-ROM system was designed to defend the US embassy, adding that the two drones had not flown near the US embassy until the S-ROM system could deal with them; In addition, the two drones flew very low, which were not detected by radar.
The spokesman for the General Command of the Iraqi Armed Forces stressed: “Security forces are everywhere and at the peak of readiness.” It is normal to deploy security forces to reassure citizens. We will not remain silent in the face of any targeting of government institutions.
Al-Kadhimi also said on Sunday evening: “We know well those who committed yesterday’s crime (drone attack on his residence) and we will prosecute and expose them.”
The Iraqi government said in a statement issued Sunday morning that Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi had been shot dead by a drone but that the prime minister had not been harmed.
