Corruption in Iraq is a deep-rooted challenge that has led to a shortage or lack of services, a weak infrastructure, and underdevelopment in various sectors, including industry and agriculture.
None of the Iraqis quoted former Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak as saying about the good and blessings in Iraq and that Iraq is the richest country in the Middle East, including the Persian Gulf, whose resources can feed seven countries and has a river and green land that gives fruit even if a seed falls inadvertently in it, it doesn’t fail to germinate.
In this regard, the Baghdad Al-Youm news website wrote that this goodness and blessing that God has bestowed on Iraq was not exploited and flourished by Saddam’s Ba’athist regime, and was not destroyed despite the war and adventure; The new regime also failed to preserve the good and blessings of Iraq, leaving a hungry nation, most of whom are poor and have the most unemployed throughout history.
Interestingly, Iraq is the only country in the world that has the most oversight body to pursue corruption, while it is at the top of the countries with corruption. Iraq has the Court of Financial Supervision, the Organization of Chastity, the Supreme Legislature in the country (Parliament), the Internal Audit Office under the Secretariat of the Cabinet, but it is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
All these great institutions could not detect and eradicate corruption, and corruption became the same ghost that everyone talks about and wants to fight, but not everyone sees it.
According to the Middle East News, the Iraqi president recently took a positive step that, if accompanied by practical measures, could be welcomed, and that is the adoption of a draft law on the return of corruption proceeds.
