The Twitter account of the detainees of Freedom of Expression has published a report on various means of torture in Saudi prisons.
The Al-Saud regime has used horrific means of torture in its prisons against detainees of freedom of expression and political dissent as punishment, according to the international group Tasnim News Agency. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stifles any dissent. He dismisses anyone he wants and imprisons anyone he wants.
The Twitter account of the Freedom of Expression Prison has written about several types of torture imposed on detainees of the Freedom of Expression regime in Saudi prisons. These forms of torture include being locked in a small wardrobe for several days, being prevented from taking a bath, being deprived of sleep, hanging from the ceiling, being beaten to the point of fainting, starvation, and ridicule.
In this regard, a human rights report revealed the behavior of Al-Saud officials regarding new trends in torture in Saudi prisons since the reign of Mohammed bin Salman in 2017.
A report released by the human rights organization Al-Qast in collaboration with the Persian Gulf Human Rights Center stressed that the lack of constitutional guarantees to prevent the horrific means of torture in Saudi prisons paves the way for its functioning.
The Human Rights Report, entitled “Torture in Saudi Arabia and the Culture of Impunity,” described torture as a regular and systematic way for Saudi officials to obtain confessions during interrogation. Al-Saud officials use torture as a form of punishment during detention, and despite reports of torture by detainees, they were tried without charge and officials did not investigate the charges against them.
Al-Qusat Human Rights Watch stressed that courts still accept confessions obtained from tortured detainees as evidence in legal cases.
The new report explains the structural reasons for this act of torture and addresses the parties responsible for the torture and ill-treatment.
The report also analyzed the failure of Saudi officials to comply with the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
