India reopens embassy in Afghanistan.
The Hindustan Times reported that India had reopened its embassy in Afghanistan after several months of closure due to Taliban rule.
Indian media have reported that India has resumed its diplomatic mission in Afghanistan by sending a “technical team” to its embassy in Kabul.
According to the Hindustan Times, after the fall of the Afghan government, India closed its consulates in Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and Mazar-e-Sharif due to security concerns and removed all its diplomats and security personnel.
Recent media contacts with the Taliban, both behind the scenes and in official meetings, paved the way for the return of Indian officials to Kabul, the media reported.
The Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that its technical team arrived in Kabul on Thursday (May 2) and was stationed at the embassy.
The purpose of sending this monitoring team is to provide humanitarian aid and interact with the people of Afghanistan.
A statement from India’s foreign ministry said the revival of the diplomatic presence in Kabul was part of “India’s historic and civilized relations with the Afghan people” and did not mean the recognition of the Taliban in Kabul.
Nearly a year later, no country has formally recognized the Taliban; However, the group has sent diplomats to some countries and the embassies of some countries in Kabul are also active.
India also flew on an Indian Air Force cargo plane carrying Indian aid to Kabul for the quake victims.
Some other countries, including Qatar, Iran and Pakistan, have also sent aid to the quake victims.
