In the shadow of tension with Russia; America sends 2500 troops to Syria.
Turkey’s Yeni Shafaq newspaper reported that the US plans to deploy 2,500 troops in northern Syria and near the border with Iraq.
Following the new wave of tension between Russia and America in Syria, Yeni Shafaq newspaper of Turkey announced Washington’s intention to deploy 2,500 troops in areas under the control of Kurdish militias in Syria.
According to this newspaper, the United States cited “increasing threats from Russia and Iran” as an excuse for this action and announced at the NATO meeting in Lithuania last week that it intends to send this number of troops.
A US Defense Department official told The Associated Press on Sunday that 900 US troops are currently stationed in Syria.
However, Yeni Shafaq newspaper wrote that the threats of Russia and Iran are an excuse and the main goal of the US for sending new troops is to provide more support to Kurdish militias.
This newspaper also reported that the United States has sent dozens of weapons shipments to northern Syria, including Himars missile systems, and deployed them in Deir Ezzor province. Also, last week, a convoy consisting of 60 trucks carrying weapons, fuel, and logistics equipment and 40 trucks carrying heavy weapons entered the US military base in Al-Hasaka province, Syria.
The official Syrian TV also reported, citing local sources, that the United States has deployed the Himars missile system in its largest military base in Deir ez-Zor.
