9 Human Rights Groups: Al-Khalifa is a serious violator of women’s rights in Bahrain. Several human rights groups have called on France to cancel Bahrain’s participation in a seminar in Paris due to serious violations of Bahraini women’s rights by the Al Khalifa regime.
Nine human rights groups have called on France to cancel the participation of the Bahrain Women’s Council in the “Generation of Equality” seminar, which will be held from June 30 to July 2 by the UN Women in Paris.
According to the Al-Quds Al-Arabi trans-regional newspaper, the groups wrote a joint letter to France asking it to reconsider inviting the High Council of Women in Bahrain to attend an Equality Generation seminar in Paris due to human rights violations by government officials in Manama.
The Generation of Equality Seminar is an international forum to explore and promote gender equality around the world.
Among these human rights groups are the Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain, Codpink, Women in War, the Gulf Human Rights Center, who emphasized in their letter: The High Council of Women in Bahrain does not believe in the principles of the seminar and its presence It will never help improve the human rights situation in Bahrain.
The letter reads: “The Bahraini government is committing gross human rights violations, and the United Nations and the European Union have repeatedly warned that the Manama authorities are tolerant of the issue of torture and ill-treatment of political prisoners and are not adhering to international agreements.”
She added that Bahraini authorities, including the High Council of Women, are not committed to the full implementation of international agreements such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. To participate in this forum, including the Bahraini government, they rudely continue to violate human rights and do not follow international standards to improve the conditions of their citizens, especially women.
In their letter to the French government, human rights groups said that women were specifically targeted for human rights abuses in Bahrain and that under Bahrain’s legal system, women were given fewer rights than men and were subject to heavier punishments by the authorities.
According to the letter, the Bahraini High Council of Women has remained silent on several cases of human rights violations targeting Bahraini women, while the international community, including governments, NGOs, and international organizations, has expressed concern.
These groups called on the international community to take stronger measures to deal with human rights violations in Bahrain and not to give the country a chance to beautify its image.
