Global support for two-month ceasefire in Yemen.
After Iran and the United States, Britain, Turkey and Egypt also announced their support for a two-month ceasefire in Yemen.
In separate official statements, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Foreign Ministries of Turkey and Egypt supported the announcement of a two-month ceasefire in Yemen.
According to Russia Today, Johnson responded to the two-month ceasefire in Yemen in a Twitter message, writing: “We have an opportunity to achieve peace and end human suffering. “I urge all parties involved to work for a lasting political solution.”
“We hope that the positive step taken towards the ceasefire will continue and the war will be stopped permanently,” Anatolia news agency reported, quoting Ankara as saying that Ankara continued to support the UN special envoy to Yemen. “It should be announced in order to begin the process of resolving political issues in all parts of Yemen.”
In another report, Russia Today reported on Egypt’s support for a two-month ceasefire in Yemen.
“Egypt hopes that this ceasefire will lead to efforts to fully resolve the Yemeni crisis and support plans for a political solution to the crisis (such as the consultative meeting hosted by Riyadh),” the statement said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden described Washington’s support for a two-month ceasefire in Yemen as inadequate.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also welcomed the UN envoy’s initiative to suspend military operations in Yemen for two months, as well as other positive steps, such as allowing ships carrying food and fuel and the partial reopening of Sanaa airport.
Yesterday, Hans Grundberg, the UN special envoy to Yemen, announced that Sanaa had reached an agreement with the resigned Yemeni government and the invading Saudi coalition to suspend military operations and reduce the siege against Yemen for two months.
