Gaddafi’s son disqualified from running for Libyan presidency.
Libyan election commission says the son of the ousted dictator is not eligible to run for president and has barred him from taking part in election.
His candidacy was rejected after widespread protests against the candidacy of ousted Libyan dictator Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.
The Libyan Electoral Commission announced on Wednesday evening that Gaddafi was not eligible to run for the presidency and barred him from running.
He was one of 25 candidates disqualified in an initial decision by the Libyan Electoral Commission to have the appeal process finally decided by the country’s judiciary. About 98 people registered to run in Libya’s next presidential election.
According to AFP, another prominent candidate in the Libyan presidential election is General Khalifa Haftar, commander of the military in eastern Libya, who is said to have been disqualified because of his US citizenship.
Libya is scheduled to hold its first general election since 2014 on January 3, 2014. Elections were scheduled for 2018 and 2019, but the Libyan civil war prevented elections.
Earlier, the cities of Tripoli and Misrata on Friday were the scene of popular protests against the candidacy of Caliph Haftar and Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi in the presidential election.
