Tehran – IRNA – The disruption in the distribution and supply of food and fuel in the UK due to the shortage of truck drivers has caused the London government to consider issuing temporary work visas for international drivers.
The disruption of fuel distribution has made long queues of cars visible in some centers, IRNA reported on Sunday, quoting Reuters.
In the meantime, there has been talk of fuel quotas in some centers.
Government ministers and oil companies have stated that there are large reserves of gasoline and diesel in the country and there is no need to issue a warning. But a shortage of truck drivers has disrupted the transfer of fuel from refineries to fuel distribution centers and gas stations.
The office of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that it is considering temporary options to address the shortage of drivers in distribution hubs.
A spokesman for the British Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement: “We are considering interim measures to prevent immediate problems, although any measures we take will be limited in time.
“Like the rest of the world, we are struggling with the challenges of the Corona epidemic, including the lack of skilled drivers to transport supplies across the UK,” he said.
It is reported that the UK is facing the challenge of shortage of about 100,000 drivers for various reasons, including the departure of drivers from this sector, the selection and the corona epidemic.
British newspapers also reported that the London government would allow more than 5,000 foreign drivers to enter the UK on a temporary visa; An issue that logistics companies and retailers have been calling for for months, but the government has rejected it.
