French youth: I do not regret slapping Macron.
Damien Tarle, a 28-year-old Frenchman, defended his controversial act of slapping President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Buffham TV.
According to Rasha Today, the young Frenchman was arrested for slapping Macron in the face and sentenced to several months in prison and was released from prison on Saturday (yesterday).
In an interview with Buffham TV, Damien Tarl stated that his attempt to slap Macron was widely supported and that he had received many letters in this regard.
“I do not regret the slapping of Macron at all,” he said. “I regret the physical violence, but it was just a small slap.” “I believe Macron has recovered very well (from this slap).”
A French court in early June sentenced Damien Tarle to prison for slapping a French president.
French prosecutors have previously said Tarl admitted to attacking Emmanuel Macron but said he did so without prior planning.
According to French judicial officials, he said during interrogation sessions that he had links to a movement known as the “Yellow Jackets”.
The young Frenchman’s attack and slapping Emmanuel Macron made headlines around the world, and Macron said hours after receiving the slap that anger and hatred were a threat to democracy.
This happened during Macron’s trip to the region of Drom, in the southeast of France. Macron made the trip less than a year before the presidential election to assess the country’s post-Crohn’s disease.
“I came that day to challenge President Emmanuel Macron,” Tarl said in an interview with Buffham TV after his release from prison. “I believe that democracy is not about voting for a representative only once every five years, but that representative does not represent a lot of people.”
He also gave an interview to France Bleu radio, in which he described slapping Emmanuel Macron as “political action.”
“I was surprised that so many people understood the political significance of my actions,” said Tarl, who received hundreds of letters of support in prison.
