France prepares for new mass strikes.
According to the German newspaper “Handelsblatt”, train passengers in France should prepare themselves for new strikes and the resulting chaos.
A new general strike has been announced for January 31, and the risk of a strike in trains, flights, ships and public transport will result in the cancellation and delay of public transport, especially trains, for several days.
The next general strike is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, January 31. Again, disruptions are expected, especially in travel. During the general strike on January 19, traffic was largely paralyzed. A similar situation may arise on January 31. Passengers should be informed regularly about news of planned actions and be careful about the trains or flight lines they have booked.
According to preliminary information, the railway strike could start even earlier and last for several days. Restrictions are likely until at least February 2nd.
Train strikes in France typically affect many ICE/TGV connections to Germany (including the Frankfurt-Saarbrucken-Paris route) as well as Eurostar trains between France and the UK. Deutsche Bahn (the German railway company) advises that the planned journeys on January 31 be postponed.
Train passengers who want to switch to other means of transport such as airplanes in case of strike will have a tough time. It is likely that airline, ferry, subway and bus workers will also strike on January 31.
