Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in Possible to be Pardoned.
News sources have reported that the current president of South Korea may pardon the former president, who was sentenced to prison for corruption.
Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in may pardon former President Park Geun-hye, who has been sentenced to 22 years in prison on corruption charges.
This news was announced by the South Korean Yonhap news agency.
Park came to power as South Korea’s first female president in 2013, but was impeached by parliament in 2016 and ousted by the Constitutional Court before the end of her term in 2017. He was later convicted in 2018 of bribery, extortion and abuse of power.
South Korean presidents have a long history of stepping down because of these allegations. Since 1987, three presidents have been convicted of criminal charges and others, along with family members, have been investigated for suspected embezzlement after completing their five-year term.
Former President Lee Myung-bak is also in prison for corruption.
While denying any wrongdoing, Park has accused the courts under “Moon Jae-in” of being biased. Our government denies the allegations.
