Former NATO Commander: The West is afraid of Ukraine’s victory.
“Philip Breedlove”, a retired American four-star general who was the “Supreme Allied Commander of Europe in NATO” from 2013 to 2016, said that the West is afraid of Ukraine’s victory in the war because of the threats of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Putin’s army has overwhelmed him on the battlefield, but his war of words, his war of threats – or, as we say in military terms, his deterrence – has been extremely effective,” Breedlove said in an interview with Scripp News on Tuesday.
The former NATO official added: “We in the West are afraid of Ukraine’s victory because Mr. Putin repeatedly scares us with what we said at the beginning of the war that we were afraid of.”
After the start of his country’s military operations in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that he will use all the tools at his disposal to maintain Russia’s security.
He also said more specifically that based on Russia’s security doctrine, if Russia’s territorial integrity is threatened, Moscow is ready to use all the weapons it has.
Breedlove said: “We are afraid of the spread of the war to a nuclear conflict and we are worried that the scope of this war will reach Europe. And what does he sing in our ears almost every day? High-ranking people in Russia say about four to five times a week that if that happens, nuclear weapons will be used. If that happens, nuclear weapons will come. If we fail, nuclear weapons will come.”
