Former foreign minister of Pakistan: Iran-Saudi relations have a positive impact on the region.
The former foreign minister of Pakistan welcomed the normalization of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia and considered this development as a positive development for the region and said: “The prospect of solving the problems of the Middle East, especially the end of the crisis in Yemen, is clear.”
“Shah Mahmoud Qureshi” on Saturday, on the sidelines of a briefing meeting with international media representatives in Islamabad, in an interview with IRNA reporter, called the agreement between Tehran and Riyadh to normalize relations a positive and extraordinary development.
Appreciating China’s role in helping de-escalation in the region, he said: Pakistan is a supporter of this effort and we have initiated mediation initiatives in the past, and now we are happy that this has become a reality.
Qureshi made 3 official trips to the Islamic Republic of Iran during his tenure as Foreign Minister between the summer of 2017 and April 1401 in the former government of Pakistan and hosted his Iranian counterpart in Islamabad 5 times.
He said: We are witnessing an opening in the relations between the important players in the region, Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the two key members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the fruits of this development will affect the entire region, including the Middle East crises.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi called the immediate solution of the crisis in Yemen inevitable and added: the resumption of interactions between Iran and Saudi Arabia will not only help to address some problems in the Islamic world, such as sectarianism, but will also clarify the prospects for solving the problems of the Middle East, including Yemen.
The Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is an important friend and neighbor of Pakistan, and we are very happy that its diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia, which is Islamabad’s strategic partner, have been restored, and we look forward to the role of these two great powers.
