Former American official: Erdogan should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
Referring to the agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine on the transfer of grain between Russia and Ukraine with the mediation of Turkey and under the supervision of the United Nations, the former US Deputy Secretary of Defense said that Erdogan deserves to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Dav Zakhim, the former US Deputy Secretary of Defense believes that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan deserves to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the grain agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
In an article published by the American Hill website, this American official described the grain agreement as a great victory for the Turkish president.
He added: “Erdogan deserves to be at least nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.” Together with the United Nations, he was able to mediate an agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which allows grain to be transported from Ukrainian ports through the Black Sea.
After Russia, Ukraine, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey, signed an agreement on the export of grain, food and chemical fertilizers from Ukrainian ports two weeks ago on Friday, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yuri Vaskov told the Economic Terrace newspaper. It plans to export about 3 million tons of wheat and other agricultural products every month through Black Sea ports.
Before that, Western countries had repeatedly blamed Moscow for closing Ukrainian ports and making it impossible to send Ukrainian grain. Moscow also responded, if Kiev clears its ports of mines, it will guarantee the safe passage of grain shipments.
Despite the agreement of the two sides, there are still obstacles in this process. “Andrei Rudenko”, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, warned last Wednesday about the termination of the agreement with Ukraine in the field of grain export.
Rudenko said that if the obstacles to the export of Russian agricultural products are not removed, the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea will also be terminated.
If this ship is loaded and leaves the port of Chornomorsk, it will be the first shipment of Ukrainian grain to leave Ukraine since the agreement between Russia and Moscow.
The port of Chornomorsk is located in the northwest of the Black Sea near the port of Odessa.
