Famous Bahraini activist, victim of oppression and injustice of the Al Khalifa government.
The Bahraini activist was an Arabic teacher at the Imam Ali School in the Al-Ma’amir area, but was fired after his first arrest. His participation in rallies and demonstrations had led to his constant persecution. He was arrested on May 23, 2017, after participating in protests in the Al-Daraz area in support of Sheikh Issa Qasim. He was also shot in the head, damaging his right eye.
Ali Mohsen Mahna was released on January 21, 2018 after paying a fine. But his trial is still ongoing.
He surrendered on April 8, 2019 and was sentenced to one year in prison. After his release, he continued his activities and took part in demonstrations to protest various issues such as the outbreak of coronation in prisons and efforts to free prisoners.
In fact, he has been summoned several times over the past year and forced to delete the content he posted on his social media account. Interestingly, in April 2021, he was fined 2,000 dinars for participating in a demonstration for the release of political prisoners during the corona outbreak inside Joe Prison. In addition, from June 12 to 30, 2021, he was imprisoned on charges of inciting and disrupting security in a video he released in support of Hussein Barakat, who died in prison due to coronary heart disease.
In all these cases, the Bahraini police arrested him without a warrant and tortured him in prison. Bahrain has thus violated all its obligations under international treaties, in particular the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCRP). .
The ADHRB has called on Bahrain to abide by its human rights obligations and to prosecute perpetrators of torture. It also called on the Bahraini government to stop pressuring freedom of expression and to release all political prisoners unconditionally.
