Faisal Miqdad: Arab countries will not benefit from holding enmity against Tehran.
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the Iran-Saudi talks, the Syrian foreign minister said that Arab countries would not benefit from enmity with Tehran.
Russian Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad, who is in Russia, stressed that Damascus has direct contact with Moscow and will examine the situation in Syria, international developments and Western tensions with Russia.
“The attacks that the West is carrying out against Russia remind us of the attacks that Syria went through in the previous phase,” Meqdad told Russia Today. “Because the West uses all kinds of media terrorism to diminish Russia’s role in the world.”
Regarding Damascus’ relations with Arab countries, he stressed: “Contacts have been made with Arab countries and through it we are trying to get past the previous stage; “The stage that these relations went through because of the terrorist attacks.”
“We have the power to respond to these aggressions,” he said, noting that Western countries provide financial and political support for terrorism in Syria.
Meqdad also stressed that Turkey’s attacks are a threat to international security and peace and that its impact is not limited to the region: “Turkey has raised ISIS in its lap. “Occupation of Syrian territory by this country will also end.”
“Syria has sacrificed a lot for the Arab countries,” he said. “Western countries have done it.”
Criticizing the US occupation of Syria and its support for separatist groups, the Syrian foreign minister said of the Iran-Saudi talks: “We are very optimistic about these talks and we support them and we want them to lead to concrete results.”
Referring to the importance of the Arab countries’ agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to establish stability in the region, Miqdad noted: “I have mentioned the importance of the normal relations between the Arab countries and the Islamic Republic. Enmity with the Islamic Republic, which is carried out with different slogans.
