Following his re-election in Turkey’s May 28 second-round election, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a brand new cabinet, with two ministers retaining their seats and many new faces to usher in a new term.
“National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Hakan Fidan has replaced Mevlut Cavusoglu as foreign minister, while former economy chief Mehmet Şimşek became the new finance minister in a much-anticipated decision,” Erdogan said.
Yilmaz Tunç has replaced Bekir Bozdag as Minister of Justice, while Chief of Staff General Yashar Güler has replaced Khulusi Akar as Minister of Defense.
Mahinur Ozdemir, who served as Turkey’s ambassador to Algeria, was introduced as the country’s new minister of family and social policies, replacing Darya Yanik.
Meanwhile, Ali Yerlikaya, who was the governor of Istanbul for 5 years, became the new interior minister, replacing Suleyman Soylu.
