Even NATO’s direct intervention will not save the Ukrainian government.
According to Sputnik, Jim Jatras, a former US foreign policy adviser and diplomat, believes that the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with the recent attack in the Belgorod region of Russia, intended to force Russia to react quickly, so that NATO Jang should intervene directly because he believes that the only way to save Ukraine is through NATO intervention.
Earlier this week, the Russian armed forces foiled a new action by Kyiv with the aim of carrying out a terrorist attack against the civilians of the city of Shebekino in the Belgorod region of Russia.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, during the clashes, the Ukrainian forces lost at least 30 terrorists, four armored personnel carriers, a “Grad” missile launcher, and a pickup truck.
About this terrorist attack, Jatras told Sputnik: “The aim of this attack in the Belgorod region was to force the Russians into some kind of stupid, hasty or even emotional reaction.” The incident subsequently made Ukraine hope for direct NATO intervention in the war because they (Ukrainians) see this intervention as the only possible way of salvation.
He emphasized: I don’t think this will work; Even if they think that NATO will enter the war directly, I still do not think that such a possible intervention will save the current Ukrainian government.
The former American diplomat continued: And anyway, I don’t imagine that the Russians will be fooled by this trick. They are aware of the situation and know that this attack was done with the intention of provoking and they are still going according to their plan and plans.
In response to possible counterattacks in Ukraine, which the West is eagerly waiting for, Jatras said that “the Ukrainian authorities will probably go ahead as planned because Washington and London have put a lot of political pressure on them.”
Pointing out that in these counterattacks, a large number of Ukrainian soldiers will probably be killed without any objective and tangible military achievements, he added: But if they can advance and capture even a few kilometers, then they can say that “Look, now we are We negotiate from a position of power. Let’s ask for a truce and hopefully get something out of it.” I think it is because they intend to make such an effort (counter-attacks). But I don’t think they will get an answer.
While Moscow has always expressed its desire for peace talks with Kyiv, Zelensky has banned any negotiations with the Russian side by signing a law. In this regard, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he is tired of commenting on Washington’s statements about Moscow’s unwillingness to hold peace talks with Kyiv.
