Europe was lucky this time, next winter is harder.
According to al-Mayadin, the director of the International Energy Agency said that he believes that European countries will face serious problems in the coming winter if they do not reduce the level of liquid natural gas consumption.
According to this report, Fatih Birol said in a speech at the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies seminar: If we do not find other sources of gas from different countries, there is only one way. Gas consumption should be saved and the level of gas consumption should be reduced. If we do not reduce gas consumption, the coming winter will be very difficult.
He emphasized: Europe was lucky this winter because it had mild weather. However, we are worried about the situation that will arise next winter.
According to “Birol”, in the last few months, Europe continued to import gas from Russia, but the volume was much lower than before.
This European official stressed: “This winter, Europe was lucky to get more liquid natural gas on the market, but it is possible that in 2023 gas imports from Russia will stop completely.” It is also likely that China, which had reduced imports of liquefied natural gas this year, will return to being one of its main importers.
According to the director of the International Energy Agency, US liquefied natural gas helped Europe a lot, and if it wasn’t for this help, Europe would have faced serious problems this winter. At the same time, Birol emphasized the need to increase renewable energy capacities.
