A spokesman for the EU foreign policy chief said the bloc, as co-ordinator of the IAEA, was strongly focused on the success of the JCPOA negotiations.
“I prefer not to comment on this, but the bottom line is the negotiations are going on, the goals are very clear, and the European Union as a coordinating body of JCPOA has made every effort to guide this process towards success.
“We are very focused on that,” he said.
The 18th series of meetings of the Joint Commission of the IAEA Board began on April 4, with the aim of activating the IAEA Board and examining the possibility of the US returning to this agreement. The fifth round of the meeting was held yesterday at the Grand Hotel Vienna, and the heads of the negotiating delegations discussed the latest status of the technical talks and the initial drafts of the texts and how the talks will continue.
In addition to the two current expert groups (in the field of lifting sanctions and nuclear), they agreed to set up a third expert group next week to discuss the practical arrangements needed to implement the lifting of sanctions and then the return of the United States to the IAEA.
According to the announced plan, after consulting in their respective capitals, the delegations will resume technical and expert talks next week, while resuming the meeting of the Joint Commission.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says all sides are determined to find a way to revitalize the bloc.
Borrell made the announcement in a series of tweets about the latest status of Iran’s nuclear talks in Vienna, adding that “significant progress has been made in Vienna over the past two weeks to revive the Iran nuclear deal.” It is not an easy task, but all the delegations worked hard and are determined to find a solution.
“Diplomacy is the best way to ensure the return of the United States to the agreement,” he said, stressing that all parties must be flexible. The EU foreign policy chief said he was ready to redouble his work as co-ordinator and to talk to all parties, including the United States.
