EU request from Egypt and Israel for gas exports.
In talks with Israeli and Egyptian officials, the European Union called for a contract to increase gas exports from the Mediterranean to EU member states.
In order to reduce the EU’s reliance on gas imports from Russia, Europe’s main gas supply partner, Reuters reports that quotes from the nine-page draft of the co-operation memorandum will be based on source gas imports if Tel Aviv and Cairo agree. Gas fields in the Mediterranean to European countries will increase significantly.
The decision by European leaders comes months after the start of the Ukraine war and the endangerment of EU member states’ gas contracts with Russia.
In addition, the Israeli Minister of Energy had previously made statements about Tel Aviv’s willingness to sell gas to its European allies in support of Ukraine and for marketing in the European Union and further involvement of the regime in energy transactions.
It is expected that if the Egyptian and Zionist authorities agree to this memorandum of cooperation, the necessary measures will be taken to sign the contract by the summer of this year. Of course, more details of the draft contract have not been released yet.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to arrive in Cairo next week to consult with Egyptian officials.
