Erdogan visits UAE; Are Tel Aviv and Cairo the next stations?
The Turkish president announced his visit to the UAE next February following the opening of a new page in relations between Ankara and Abu Dhabi, and noted that similar steps had been taken with Egypt and the Zionist regime to improve relations with them.
Turkish media say that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that his country is seeking a gradual rapprochement with Israel and Egypt after opening a new page in relations with the UAE.
According to AFP, Erdogan told reporters when asked about Turkey’s strained relations with Israel and Egypt: “When we make this decision; “We will be ready to introduce the ambassadors according to a specific timetable and we will move forward gradually.”
Relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv have been strained since Zionist militants attacked a Turkish ship carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in 2010, killing several people on board. Turkey and Israel have recalled their ambassadors in 2018 after several Palestinian protesters were killed in the Gaza Strip.
In November, the first contact was made between Israeli President Ishaq Herzog and Erdogan a few hours after the release of an Israeli couple arrested in Turkey on charges of espionage. Was not established.
Relations between Cairo and Ankara also soured after Erdogan announced his support for the Muslim Brotherhood after Abdel Fattah al-Sisi took office in 2013. But last March, Ankara resumed diplomatic contacts with Cairo, which had been suspended since 2013. Negotiations between the two sides began in September and have continued to this day, although no concrete results have been reached so far.
Erdogan told reporters on his return to Turkmenistan yesterday (Monday) that he would visit the UAE next February. Expressing satisfaction with the improvement of relations with Abu Dhabi, he announced the possibility of achieving and taking similar steps with Egypt and Israel, referring to the imminent achievement of a progress in the continuous improvement of Turkey’s relations with Cairo and Tel Aviv.
