Erdogan: “I will make Turkey one of the 10 largest economies in the world.”
The Turkish president has promised to place the country in the top ten economies in the world.
The Turkish president on Saturday promised that Turkey would continue to grow through investment and production.
According to the “Ahwal” website, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed in his speech that his government would make the country one of the top 10 economies in the world. The remarks came as the country faced sharp inflation and a weakening Turkish lira against the dollar in the economic crisis this year.
“We are closer than ever to our goal of making Turkey one of the top 10 economies in the world,” Erdogan said. “All we want is to ensure that our country continues to grow through investment, employment, production, exports and current account surpluses, and thus achieve our goals as soon as possible.”
Erdogan reiterated his fiscal policies on Saturday, saying they have been as successful as those waiting for the Turkish economy to collapse. “I am an economist, this is my job,” Erdogan said.
“On the past two days, the Turkish president and his supporters have been happy with the appreciation of the Turkish lira against the dollar,” reports said on Monday. That this happiness is misplaced. Not only has there been a currency crisis, but the ruling Justice and Development Party has made the Turkish people poorer over the past two decades.
“Improving the lira situation has not helped the Turkish people much in the domestic market,” it said. The lira has improved against the dollar, but prices and inflation continue to rise. Both transportation and textiles are expected to rise in price soon, and youth unemployment remains at unprecedented levels. Millions of households rely on welfare and social support, while millions of children sleep cold and hungry. Erdogan’s government has created an economy in which young people dream of going abroad, and minimum wages are not enough to buy basic goods.
