The Hebrew newspaper Israel Hume reported last week that Ankara had barred dozens of members of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) from entering Turkey at Tel Aviv’s request.
Ankara and Tel Aviv have not had ambassadors since May 2018 – after Turkey ousted the Israeli ambassador on the pretext of escalating Zionist attacks on the Gaza Strip and former US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem; But for several months now, relations between the two sides have been normalized, and Turkey and the Zionist regime are now trying to develop their relations in all areas.
On the eve of Herzog’s visit to Turkey, the Turkish daily Hurriyet reported that Ankara had been holding secret talks with a number of countries in the region for about a year and a half, with the aim of finding new accommodation for Hamas members. The report further stated that Ankara had informed Hamas that its military members would not remain in Turkey and that Turkey would not provide military assistance to Hamas; But Hamas’ political activities in the country will continue.
