Eight killed and more than 70 detained in counter-terrorism operations in eastern Tajikistan.
Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry says a large number of members of criminal groups have been killed and arrested in the Roshan district of the Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The Tajik Interior Ministry said in a statement that a number of members of criminal groups had been killed in counter-terrorism operations in the Roshan region of the Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
According to the statement, organized crime groups armed with various weapons and “Molotov cocktails” today attacked the motorcade of a special counter-terrorism unit of the Tajik State National Security Committee in the Roshan region, killing a special forces officer and 13 soldiers. Others were injured.
It was noted that an organized criminal group of 200 people using all kinds of weapons in the center of Roshan district blocked the “Dushanbe-Khorog” highway and the road to a “border base”.
Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry claims that the groups were already prepared to carry out the operation and had imported weapons for this purpose.
As a result of this anti-terrorist operation, 8 members of the organized criminal group were killed, 11 were injured and more than 70 others were arrested.
The Tajik Interior Ministry has announced the opening of a criminal case, citing the seizure of a large number of weapons and ammunition from an organized criminal group.
According to the statement, the situation in the Roshan area has now stabilized, and social infrastructure and public transportation have returned to normal.
The ministry has warned the remaining members of the organized crime group to surrender, otherwise they will be dealt with severely.
The Tajik Ministry of Defense, for its part, also denied reports that a helicopter belonging to the Tajik military had crashed in the Roshan area of Badakhshan province during an anti-terrorist operation.
No civilians were injured during the counter-terrorism operation, according to Tajik officials.
