Drone attack on American forces in Erbil.
Iraqi Kurdish security officials said a drone strike near US forces stationed at Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq on Saturday.
The Internal Security Service of the Iraqi Kurdistan Autonomous Region, of which Erbil is the capital, initially said three rockets hit near the airport.
A second statement from Kurdish forces said the attack was carried out by drones loaded with explosives.
There are no reports of casualties yet. Witnesses said they heard at least six explosions in the area.
The airport in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish Autonomous Region, has been attacked several times in the past year, including by drones carrying explosives.
U.S. officials have blamed previous attacks on Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias, which have vowed not to allow another 2,500 US troops to leave the country.
