According to the Guardian, the Swedish government condemned the desecration of the Holy Qur’an in this country and described it as “Islamophobia”.
In a statement issued by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard, it is stated: The Swedish government fully understands that Islamophobic actions carried out by people in demonstrations in Sweden can be offensive to Muslims.
The statement of the Swedish Foreign Ministry adds: We strongly condemn such actions, which in no way express the views of the Swedish government. Burning the Quran or any other holy text is considered an insulting, disrespectful and provocative act. Expressing racism, xenophobia and related intolerance has no place in Sweden or Europe!
In this regard, the Mufti of Oman, “Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili”, asked the Muslims of the world to react to the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
He further added: Muslims in the East and West of the world should deal with this crime as it deserves. The least that Muslims can do against this great crime is to boycott all Swedish goods.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has called for collective measures to be taken against repeating insults to the Quran.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation also stated that insulting the Quran and the Prophet is not normal in the context of Islamophobic incidents.
This organization emphasized the necessity of implementing the international law on the prohibition of religious hatred.
It should be noted that Selvan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi immigrant, set fire to a copy of the Holy Quran and tore its pages. This rash act led to a wave of protests in many Islamic countries.
“Ivan Faiq Jabro”, the Minister of Immigration of Iraq, while attending the “Syedah Al-Najat” Church in Baghdad, condemned the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden. The Iraqi Minister of Immigration announced that Baghdad is planning to consult with the Swedish government to return the person who set fire to the Holy Quran and to request a guarantee that such incidents will not happen again in that country.
