Decisive victory of opposition parties in Thailand.
According to Reuters, according to the preliminary results of the Thai parliamentary elections, the two opposition parties “Pu Thai” and “Forward Movement” have won the most seats. With these interpretations, after about a decade, the way will be opened to challenge the military government of this country.
According to the announcement of the Election Commission of Thailand, after counting 99% of the votes, the opposition parties have inflicted a heavy defeat on the ruling military parties of this country. With this account, these two parties can easily win the overwhelming majority in the Thai House of Representatives. However, in the political structure of this country, the 250-member Senate has seized most of the power and all members of this parliament have been appointed by the military government.
In the rankings of Thailand’s primary vote count, the third and fourth places with 71 and 40 seats, respectively, go to “Thai Pride Party/Bhumjaithai” with right-wing positions and a tendency towards decentralization, and “Palang Pracharat” with a tendency to support the military and conservatism. And the link with the “Military Junta” (military council established after the 2014 coup) belongs to it.
The party of Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, known as the “United Nation of Thailand”, is in the fifth place of the vote counting ranking with only 36 seats. Chan Ocha came to office for the first time after the 2014 coup.
Parliamentary seats in Thailand are distributed based on 400 independent seats and 100 party seats. Parties win seats in parliament based on their share of national votes.
The preliminary results indicate that the “Forward Movement” party won a total of 151 seats and the “Po Tai” party won 141 seats in the parliament.
