Damascus: The United States has committed war crimes in Raqqa.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stressed that official US reports about Raqqa and the scale of the catastrophe were false, and that the United Nations should investigate the destruction of the city and the killing of thousands of its residents.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on Monday evening regarding the war crimes committed by the US-led anti-ISIL coalition in Raqqa in northern Syria.
The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted the Syrian body as saying that the US coalition destroyed the city of Raqqa and killed thousands of innocent people, but that the issue had not been considered internationally.
“The actions of the coalition in Raqqa are one of the most heinous crimes of which the international community was not fully aware, but it is time to clarify this humanitarian, legal and political issue,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the extent of damage to government and private infrastructure and facilities, and the number of casualties in Raqqa, Ain al-Arab, and al-Baghuz, indicate that the United States and its allies have committed war crimes against humanity.
The Syrian organization noted that the official US reports about Raqqa and the dimensions of the catastrophe in it are false, and that the United Nations should investigate the case of the destruction of Raqqa and the killing of thousands of its inhabitants.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry concluded by emphasizing that Damascus will continue to raise the issue and the events in Raqqa and al-Baghuz, and that the countries that participated in this coalition are politically, legally and morally responsible for these crimes.
In this regard, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad strongly criticized human rights violations by US terrorist forces in the country last January, saying, “US aggression has destroyed the city of Raqqa, and this city is a testament to American atrocities.”
Criticizing the United States for abusing human rights, he stressed that the country has largely triumphed over terrorism and will continue to fight until it is completely eradicated.
“The terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra is still present in northwestern Syria with the support of Turkey, and the terrorist group ISIS is present in northeastern Syria with the support of the United States,” Meqdad said.
