Damascus: The Golan belongs to Syria forever.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry today (Monday) reacted to and condemned in a statement the words of the Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett regarding the increase of settlements in the occupied Golan Heights.
“Golan will return to the arms of the motherland and sooner or later there is no other way than this,” the statement said.
Residents of the occupied Golan Heights in southern Syria held a protest rally against the policies of the Zionist regime on Monday, stressing that they will not allow any settlement projects to be implemented in the region. Residents of the area gathered in the village of Masada, reaffirming their Arab and Syrian identities.
Today’s rally and the issuance of the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s statement come after the Zionists held a meeting today in the occupied Golan with the aim of expanding settlements. The Tel Aviv regime plans to build 7,000 new housing units for settlers. If these settlements are built, the number of Zionist settlers will increase from 40,000 to 100,000.
Experts emphasize that Tel Aviv’s goal in such plans is to change the demographic and geographical context of the Golan Heights.
On Thursday last week, the Israeli-language newspaper Israel Hume reported that Israeli Interior Minister Ail Shaked had issued an order to establish a plan to establish several Zionist settlements in the Negev (occupied southern Palestine) and the occupied Golan to submit it to the cabinet. Tel Aviv.
During the Six-Day War in 1967, the Zionist regime occupied a large part of the Golan Heights. This region is of strategic importance to the Zionists due to its rich water resources, including the freshwater lake “Tabaria”.
