Damascus: Supporting Palestine was the reason that western powers started war in Syria.
The Syrian foreign minister said that his country’s support for Palestine was one of the reasons for starting the war with foreign support in Syria.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad said the US-occupied territories in his country would soon be under the control of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
The United States and its allied forces, the Syrian Kurdish militias, have taken control of large areas of eastern Syria. Areas of eastern Syria that supply most of Syria’s oil, gas and food are currently occupied by these forces. Damascus has criticized Washington for stealing Syrian resources and has repeatedly called on the United States to withdraw its forces.
“The US illegal presence in the island region of northern Syria is coming to an end and the areas occupied by US forces will soon come under the control of the Damascus government,” Faisal Meqdad told Sputnik, according to Sputnik.
Addressing the militants of the so-called “Syrian Kurdish Democratic Forces” (Qasd), Miqdad wanted them to understand that the United States would eventually leave Syria and abandon them.
In another part of the interview, Faisal Miqdad stated that Damascus ‘principled support for the Palestinian movement and Damascus’ efforts to liberate the occupied territories in the Golan Heights and southern Lebanon were one of the main reasons for the start of the 2011 Syrian conflict.
“Given Syria’s stubborn commitment to these positions, as well as its strategic position and influence in the upper Syrian regions, the belligerent countries have tried to influence Damascus’ policies,” Meqdad said. “They resorted to terrorism after the failure of their efforts.”
