The Syrian Foreign Ministry reacted to the Turkish President’s statement about the establishment of a “safe zone” in northern Syria, calling it “ridiculous” and a Turkish play.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a scathing statement this afternoon (Friday) in response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks about the establishment of a “safe zone” in northern Syria.
In a recent statement, the president called on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to help establish a “safe zone” along the border with Syria to resettle refugees.
According to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA), the Syrian Foreign Ministry responded to the remarks by saying, “Turkish President’s absurd remarks about establishing a safe zone in northern Syria are hostile games that the regime is playing against Syria and its territorial integrity. . The vicious bargaining that the Turkish regime has done and continues to do shows that it does not have the slightest political and moral understanding to deal with the Syrian crisis, because the regime itself has always been a part of this crisis, and it plans to divide [Syria]. Has continued; “It is a plan that is only in line with the goals of Israel, the United States and the West.”
“The purpose of creating such an area is not to protect the border areas between Syria and Turkey at all, but its main purpose is to colonize and create an explosive center that basically helps to carry out terrorist plots against the Syrian people,” the statement said. “The government of the Syrian Arab Republic emphasizes the absolute rejection of such an excuse and urges those countries in the region and the world that have played a role in financing and promoting such criminal schemes to immediately stop supporting the Turkish regime in achieving its evil goals.”
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on the international community not to bargain with the President of Turkey over other countries in order to achieve short-term goals; Goals that will have catastrophic consequences for the security, peace and stability of the region and the world.
Damascus concluded by emphasizing that it will use all legitimate means to confront this new but age-old conspiracy to defend its people and its territorial integrity.
