Damascus called for the immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from northern Syria.
The Syrian Foreign Minister stressed the need for the immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from the northern provinces of his country to contain the recent escalating tensions.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Muqaddad said Syrian officials were urging Turkey to withdraw its forces immediately from the northern provinces of Syria.
“I believe that Turkey should withdraw its forces immediately and that the international community, in turn, should support Syria’s efforts to liberate the occupied territories in the north of the country,” he told RIA Novosti.
The Syrian foreign minister said the main reason for the recent escalation of tensions was “Turkish occupation and Ankara’s support for terrorist groups” in the region from Syria.
Last August, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Guer Pederson, announced the deteriorating security situation and the escalation of armed conflict in some parts of Syria, particularly in Idlib.
Turkey deployed troops to northern Syria in 2019, and political observers said its goal was to try to ethnically change the population of northern Syrian cities and eventually annex them, but Ankara responded to criticism that only It wants to “reform” the population structure that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF, affiliated with the United States) have changed.
