Coalition Concerned Over Ansarullah Attacks Yemen / Riyadh, UAE Seek US Military Support.
Bloomberg says Gulf oil exporters, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which are key members of the coalition attacking Yemen, are seeking to sign a formal military alliance with the United States.
On the other hand, if no collective agreement is reached, these countries will seek long-term or renewable bilateral military agreements.
The UAE, which is seeking such an agreement, has also called on Israel to exert influence to advance it, and Saudi Arabia is seeking guarantees.
Some analysts say such a pact is likely to follow the pattern of the UAE-France military pact, in which Paris sent its Rafael fighter jets to defend the UAE after the Houthis invaded Abu Dhabi in January.
The UAE and France have agreed to buy 80 Rafael fighter jets and 12 military helicopters. The value of the arms deal is estimated at more than $ 19 billion (€ 17 billion).
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 2020 Dubai Expo, following a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on December 3rd.
