CNN broadcast parts of yesterday’s inauguration ceremony in the Iranian parliament, adding: “The government of Ebrahim Ra’isi is starting its work while Iran is in the middle of Vienna talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal and the lifting of economic sanctions.”
“In a speech at the inauguration ceremony, Raisi called for the lifting of sanctions and supported diplomatic efforts to do so,” the media reported.
CNN added: “In another part of his speech, Raisi said that Iran’s nuclear program is generally peaceful.
The President said: “The policy of pressure and sanctions will not prevent the Iranian people from pursuing their legal rights, including the right to development. Iran supports any diplomatic plan to lift sanctions.”
According to IRNA; The activities of Ayatollah Ra’isi’s government begin in a situation where the Vienna talks have been temporarily suspended for several weeks.
Diplomats participating in the talks say good progress has been made, but there are still some issues that need to be agreed. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, who chaired Iran’s negotiating team in the Vienna talks, has previously stated that the negotiation process will continue under the new Iranian government.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said last night that he hoped Tehran would now use the opportunity to advance diplomatic solutions, saying “we want Iran to return to the Vienna talks.”
The US official said this in a meeting with reporters on Thursday, local time, after the inauguration of the new president of Iran.
A US State Department spokesman said that while the timing of the seventh round of Vienna talks has not yet been determined, he called on Iran to return to the Vienna talks.
“If the president is determined to lift the sanctions, that is exactly what is on the table in Vienna,” he said.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ibrahim Ra’isi on Thursday evening, after taking the oath of office and welcoming the foreign and domestic guests participating in the ceremony, said: “All components of national power in the people’s government are strengthened and all tools of national power, including diplomacy and We use intelligent interaction with the world to secure the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
