By CNN Hezbollah celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding on Monday in southern Lebanon by displaying its fighters who had been “killed” in the war.
In recent years, this Lebanese Shiite group has tried to transform itself from a paramilitary organization supported by Iran into a serious political and regional player. The author stated: “With the passage of 40 years, Hezbollah is stronger militarily than ever before, although it is also more isolated globally than ever before.”
According to CNN, this group was first formed in 1982 in response to Israel’s attack on Beirut during the bloody Lebanese civil war. The Israelis were able to achieve their goal of expelling the Palestinian fighters from that country, but they created a stronger enemy in the form of Hezbollah.
According to this analysis, since then Hezbollah has developed and expanded its military power. In 2000, Israeli forces withdrew from southern Lebanon after an ongoing conflict with Hezbollah.
CNN wrote: “The group’s political influence appears to be growing relentlessly, despite some domestic efforts to limit its power – supported through Saudi Arabia.”
