CIA chief: The next 6 months will be crucial for Ukraine.
The head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has claimed that the next 6 months will be crucial for Ukraine in the fight against Russia.
William Burns, head of the CIA, said Friday morning (Tehran time) that the intelligence agency’s assessment is that the next 6 months will be “vital” for Ukraine in the war against Russia.
Explaining this assessment, he said that “Vladimir Putin”, the president of Russia, believes that “political exhaustion” will cover the entire West. He said that Russia does not seem to be serious about negotiations.
William Burns, who gave a speech at Georgetown University in Washington, described China as America’s biggest geopolitical challenge. The competition with China is “unique in its scope” and is taking place in several arenas, he said. He said that this competition may be even more intense than the competition with the Soviet Union. Burns also stated that new technologies are the main area of competition with China, and this issue “will be the main determining factor in our future as an intelligence organization.”
In a part of his statement, he described the deepening of military cooperation between Iran and Russia as “very worrying”.
In another part of his statement, the head of the CIA said that he is worried about the possibility of violence between the Palestinians and the Israelis. He said that the issues that are happening these days are “sadly similar” to the events that led to the second intifada two decades ago.
