According to Xinhua, China’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations called United States the biggest threat to peace and stability in the South China Sea.
According to the report, Dai Bing criticized the United States for sending advanced warships and aircraft carriers to the South China Sea, adding that Washington was seeking to divide the region.
“The United States itself has become the biggest threat to peace and stability in the South China Sea,” he told a virtual Security Council meeting on maritime security.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken argued at the same meeting that all countries, not just those claiming control of the South China Sea islands, should abide by the laws agreed upon to resolve maritime disputes.
The US official called China’s actions “provocative and illegal” and said: “We have witnessed a dangerous confrontation of ships at sea and dangerous actions to advance illegal maritime claims.”
Blinken also claimed that Washington was concerned about actions that would intimidate and coerce other countries and impede their access to maritime resources.
He added that the conflict in the China Sea or in any other ocean will have serious consequences for security and trade. If a country does not face any consequences for violating these laws, it will lead to instability everywhere.
