China and India agree on maintaining peace and tranquility in the disputed border area.
According to the Anatolia news agency, China and India issued a joint statement after the 19th meeting at the level of army commanders to resolve the tension in the disputed border areas in the Himalayas: an agreement on the immediate resolution of the remaining problems in the western sector (LAC).
In a statement issued by the commanders of the Chinese and Indian armies in this regard, it is stated: Both sides agreed to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas until then.
As a result of 18 rounds of negotiations held between Beijing and New Delhi since 2020, the parties agreed to mutually withdraw their forces from the 3 tension zones.
However, in the 18th round of negotiations in April, no agreement was reached regarding the withdrawal from the Depsan Plateau and the Demchuk region.
Beijing-New Delhi relations were strained in June 2020 after a clash between the forces of the two sides in the border region of Ladakh located in the Himalayan mountains.
In these clashes, 20 Indian soldiers and 4 Chinese soldiers were killed.
Following this event, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian announced that Beijing’s position on border issues with India is clear and stable.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry further added: We have the ability to resolve issues in a suitable way through dialogue and consultation. The situation on the border of the two countries is completely stable and controllable.
