The media reported people’s demonstrations in the west of France on the issue of water and clashes with the police.
Thousands of French demonstrators clashed with police on Sunday in defiance of the official ban on marches.
According to “Agence France-Presse”, demonstrators are protesting against the establishment of new water storage infrastructure for agricultural irrigation in western France, and for this reason, they came to the streets on Sunday and clashed with the police. The organizers announced the number of participants to be 7,000.
On Saturday, France also witnessed a conflict over this issue, “Gerald Daronin”, the Minister of the Interior of France, said that during the conflict between the police and the demonstrators, he reported that 61 police officers were injured, 22 of whom were in serious condition. About 30 demonstrators were also injured, three of whom are hospitalized.
Demonstrations in western France were organized by environmental associations, trade unions and anti-capitalist groups. Local authorities said that six people were arrested during the demonstration
The establishment of giant water ponds in a village in the west of France is being done to irrigate crops, and opponents believe that this action will make access to water in drought conditions very difficult.
