Cell phones of 9 US State Department employees hacked with Pegasus.
Informed sources reported that at least 9 US State Department employees were hacked by Pegasus spyware.
According to ISNA, Reuters quoted informed sources as saying that an unknown assailant used the spy software made by the Israeli group “NSO” to hack the iPhone of at least 9 US State Department employees.
According to unnamed sources, the hacking operation was carried out in recent months against US officials in Uganda, focusing on Ugandan issues.
The sources told Reuters they could not determine who carried out the cyberattacks.
Apple, meanwhile, filed a lawsuit in federal court 10 days ago, demanding that NSO Group (the developer of the Pegasus program) be denied access to any of the company’s plans to protect the privacy of its customers.
The NSO said in a statement that there was no indication of malware being used in the attacks, but that it would remove all accounts and investigate the Reuters report.
A spokesman for the Israeli company said: “If our investigations show that these actions were carried out using NSO technologies, the interaction with the offending party will be stopped forever and legal measures will be taken at the same time.”
A State Department spokesman also declined to comment on the allegations
