Burrell: Like it or not, China will become a great power.
Joseph Burrell, the European Union foreign policy official, claimed that the European Union countries have a different approach to China than the US government at the “2023 State of the Union Meeting” in Italy.
He said: “In the EU-US-China triangle, we are definitely closer to Washington, but we (in dealing with China) have our own way and we are working on it now.”
Burrell stated that “EU countries should not prevent China’s rise and rise to the position of a world power” and added: “I think we should not prevent China from gaining power.” Whether we like it or not, China will become a great power. The important issue is how China will manage its power.
Previously, in an interview with “Politico” and when returning from China, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that “Europe should reduce its dependence on the United States and avoid being drawn into the tension between the United States and China over Taiwan.”
Macron said: “The big danger facing Europe is that it enters into crises that are not ours and hinder our strategic independence.” Europeans must answer whether the escalation of the Taiwan crisis is in our interests? no
He warned that “Be careful, if we make a mistake, we will find ourselves in the Taiwan crisis”, adding: Europeans cannot solve the Ukraine crisis, how can we talk authentically about Taiwan.
The French President further said: Europe is too dependent on America in terms of weapons and energy, and it should focus on strengthening European defense industries. Europe should also reduce its dependence on the US dollar.
