Blockage of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan earthquake victims.
The United States, meanwhile, claims to be a human rights activist whose sanctions have made it difficult to help Afghan earthquake victims, and its 20-year presence, US institutions acknowledge, has achieved nothing but spread poverty and insecurity in Afghanistan.
The United States is claiming human rights and defending it, but at the same time as the deadly earthquake in southern Afghanistan, Taliban officials said that due to US sanctions, various countries were unable to provide assistance to the victims.
On the other hand, the country’s military campaign and long-term presence in Afghanistan have resulted in nothing but the spread of poverty and destruction.
US sanctions block aid to earthquake victims in southern Afghanistan
A strong earthquake shook eastern Afghanistan, including Paktika and Khost provinces, on Wednesday morning (July 1st), killing 1,500 people and injuring 2,000 others.
Many countries, including Iran, have been providing aid and equipment since the beginning, but US sanctions have prevented aid from being sent to earthquake victims.
Taliban officials also said that countries could not help the quake-hit people due to US sanctions.
In this regard, Sirajuddin Haqqani, the interior minister of the Taliban interim government, criticized the US performance in providing assistance to the earthquake victims in Afghanistan.
He said many countries could not send aid to Afghanistan because of US sanctions.
US blockade of Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves
After the Taliban came to power on August 15, 2021, the United States and other Western countries froze more than $ 9.5 billion in Afghan funds and cut off Taliban access to it, a move that worsened Afghanistan’s economic situation.
