Bin Salman was immune from prosecution in Khashoggi’s murder.
The appointment of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as the head of the Council of Ministers of this country gives him judicial immunity from prosecution in the case of the murder of a critical Saudi journalist.
The lawyers of Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, have told a court in the United States that his new position as the head of the Council of Ministers gives him judicial immunity from prosecution in the case of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.
Last week, King Salman of Saudi Arabia appointed Mohammed bin Salman as the head of the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia as part of the reshuffle of the country’s cabinet.
According to the Middle East Monitor website, these statements by Bensalman’s lawyers confirm the speculations that he was appointed to the position for this very reason.
According to the Middle East Monitor report, these statements were made in a petition that was prepared yesterday (Monday). In this petition, a district court in Washington is asked to close the lawsuit filed against Bensalman. That complaint was filed in 2020, after evidence was discovered that Khashoggi’s gruesome murder was ordered by Bin Salman.
In the petition of the lawyers of Saudi Arabia, referring to the new decree of King Salman, it is stated: “This royal decree leaves little doubt that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia enjoys governmental immunity.”
The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is currently the head of the Council of Ministers, the head of the Ministry of Defense and the first deputy prime minister. These positions have surprised many analysts.
After the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018, months of investigation by Russian and American intelligence agencies revealed that the operation was ordered by Bin Salman and his intelligence chiefs.
